September Sharing Time: "Choose the Right" Bean Bag Toss
| This month's sharing time involves the children in an activity geared to increase their understanding of how they can choose to follow Heavenly Father’s plan. |
 |
Preparation:
Write the following activities or questions on 16 separate sheets of
colored paper (one per sheet). Gather the pictures needed (GAK 311, The
Anti-Nephi-Lehi’s; GAK 305, Enos Prays; GAK 402, Joseph Smith Seeks
Wisdom), a tithing slip, and a bean bag.
Place the colored papers face down on the floor at the front of the
room. Put them in a grid of four sheets across and four sheets down.
Presentation:
Have a child come to the front and toss the bean bag toward the grid.
Have them answer the question on the paper the bean bag lands on (If is
is a song, have the child help lead all children in singing it). After
they complete the activity remove that paper from the grid. Repeat with
another child until all sixteen activities have been completed.
- Sing “I Will Follow God’s Plan,” Children’s Songbook, 164.
- Look at Picture 311. Review the story. How were the
Anti-Nephi-Lehi’s honest? (They kept their covenants not to fight.)
- Where can we find God’s words for us? (Scriptures.)
- Sing, “A Child’s Prayer,” Children’s Songbook, 12.
- How much tithing would you pay if you earned $1.00. (10¢.)
- When is is appropriate to use Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ’s
names? (When praying, when talking about them reverently, when learning
about them in church or at home, etc.) When is it NOT appropriate?
(When we are angry or excited, etc.)
- Look at Picture 305. Tell what it is about. (Enos Praying.)
- Name three times you could pray. (Bedtime, morning, church, meals,
when need help, when want to say thanks, etc.)
- Sing, “Search, Ponder and Pray,” Children’s Songbook, 109.
- Show a tithing slip and envelope. What are these used for? (Paying
tithing.) Who do you give tithing to? (Bishop.)
- Fill in the blanks. “Thou shalt not take the _ of the
__ in vain.” Exodus 20:7. (Name, Lord)
- If you really like a toy at the store, is it all right to take it
home with you without paying for it?
- Sing, “I Am a Child of God,” Children’s Songbook, 2.
- Tell what “not bear false witness” means. Exodus 20:16. (Not lie.)
- Name something tithing is used for. (Constructing temples, chapels,
and other buildings, providing operating funds for the Church, funding
the missionary program, preparing materials used in Church classes and
organizations, temple work, family history, and education.)
- Look at Picture 402. Tell what it is about. (Joseph Smith reading
the scriptures.)
After all the activities have been completed review that praying,
reading the scriptures, paying tithing, being honest, and using
Heavenly Father’s name reverently are all ways we can choose the right.
Bear testimony that you know this to be true.
