Post the portrait of the Savior and the CHRIST wordstrip on the left side of the board. Post the RESTORATION wordstrip and the portrait of Joseph Smith on the right side of the board. Place the remaining pictures, face-up, on a table or other place where the children can see them.

Presentation: Explain to the children that during Christ’s life he taught the gospel to the people of Palestine. After he died the apostles kept teaching his words but eventually they all died as well. The gospel was no longer on the earth. This is called the apostasy. When Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith they began a restoration or bringing back of the gospel.

Tell them they are going to play a game. Show them the game cube. Tell them that blue represents the gospel at the time of Christ. Red represents the the apostasy. Yellow represents the restoration of the gospel.

Have children take turns rolling the game cube. If the child rolls blue, have them choose a picture that represents the gospel at the time of Christ and post it on the left side of the board. If they roll yellow, have them choose a picture that represents the gospel during or since the restoration and post it on the right side of the board. As each picture is posted briefly help them understand what the picture depicts. If the child rolls red, everyone sings a Primary song to celebrate that we are no longer living during the time of the apostasy.

Suggested songs to sing are: “Jesus Loved the Little Children” (CS, 59), “He Sent His Son” (CS, 34), “The Church of Jesus Christ” (CS, 77), “The Priesthood is Restored” (CS, 89), “I Love to See the Temple” (CS, 95), “When I Am Baptized” (CS, 102), and “Search, Ponder, and Pray” (CS, 109).
