Craig Jessop, the longtime director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir who abruptly resigned March 4, will return to his native Cache Valley to become head of Utah State University’s music department, The Salt Lake Tribune has learned.

The school plans to make the announcement today.

Jessop, 58, will be replacing USU’s interim music chairman, Nicholas Morrison, who has been filling the vacancy created by the departure of Bruce Saperston last year.
